The Language and Religion

The language prominently spoken in El Salvador is Spanish. There are a few English-speaking inhabitants but in order to get around the country, you must speak Spanish. The religion of Roman Catholicism plays a major role in the Salvadoran lifestyle. More than 60% of the people practice this religion.

The Foods

The Pupusas

The most popular food for which Salvadorans are known for is pupusas. The pupusa is the main dish, introduced by the Natives of this country, the Pipil Indians. Pupusas are a thick tortilla de maíz filled with one or more of the following: queso (cheese), frijoles (beans), chicharrón (fried pork), and queso con lorocco (cheese with a Salvadorian vine flower). Along side this dish goes the curtido (cabbage relish) and the salsa (made of tomatoes).

 La Yuca Frita y El Pan con Pavo

Yuca Frita is another main dish of El Salvador. It is deep fried and served with curtido and salsa as well. On the side lies chicharrón or pepesquitas (baby sardines). Pan con Pavo is a sandwich filled with turkey and topped off with curtido.

The Music

The music most popular in El Salvador is cumbia. Cumbia is a Latino style of music played throughout all Central and South America. Some of the most popular groups of El Salvador are Los Hermanos Flores, Orquesta San Vicente, Aniceto Molina, La Chanchona, Marito Rivera, Los Vikings de Usulutan, Los Apaches de Usulutan, and many more.
